By now, it’s no secret that Tampa is experiencing some major growth - and that even more expansion and diversification is underway. With this growth comes the arrival of more and more opportunities for fun and leisure every day, and in a community as diverse as Tampa’s, no two neighborhoods are alike.
That’s why we’re excited to announce the release of our weekly Neighborhood Spotlight series. Each week, we’re walking aspiring homeowners in Tampa Bay through the highlights of a different neighborhood in the area. We’re talking pastimes, restaurants, bars, and major perks that make that area a uniquely fantastic place to live.
This week, we’re exploring West Tampa: a diverse, dynamic neighborhood that is full of both residential opportunities and pastimes for foodies and fun-seekers alike.
Attractions
West Tampa’s attractions range from mellow to exciting. Home ownership in West Tampa means having the following attractions and activities in your own backyard:
Raymond James Stadium
Referred to as the Bucs stadium by locals, this Tampa gem is the site of Buccaneers and USF games as well as concerts for world-famous artists like Taylor Swift.
Steinbrenner Field
Dying to catch a Yankees game but not quite willing to buy a place ticket to New York? No problem: you can catch their practices and games at Steinbrenner Field, their site for off-season practices and games. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon!
Lowry Park Zoo
Trust us: you don’t have to be a kid to enjoy the amazing animals and educational adventures at Lowry Park Zoo. Certain strategically placed homes are actually well within walking distance from this awesome daytime spot - talk about neighborhood perks!
Restaurants
One of the most exciting aspects of life in West Tampa is being a stone’s throw away from the amazing local restaurants that call the area home. If you’re looking for authentic Cuban food, stop by La Margarita on Hillsborough. Craving mouth-watering tacos? Taqueria Emanuel is right around the corner (try their spicy green sauce for a heck of a kick!). Tripp’s Diner on Florida Ave. is a must-visit breakfast spot, and Ichicoro’s delicious ramen also makes it a go-to spot on Florida.
Trust us, the list goes on: Cappy’s Pizza, Tampa Sandwich Shop, Mambo’s Cafe, Mekenita Cantina, and Pabellon del Mofongo are only a few other places that contribute to West Tampa’s unbeatable food scene.
Breweries and Bars
Calling all craft beer enthusiasts! With the rise of West Tampa’s standing as a local hot-spot, several breweries have popped up on Florida Avenue and neighboring streets. Here are some of our favorites:
1949 - Enjoy a game of pool with friends or one of the many board games available at this local gem (warning: their beers are delicious but will hinder your performance in Operation).
Jug and Bottle - A unique bottle shop specializing in craft beer, wine, and one-of-a-kind finds, Jug & Bottle offers six rotating taps, allowing locals to enjoy new brews on a regular basis.
7venth Sun - Featuring an awesome beer selection and delicious outdoor food truck, 7venth Sun is a wildly popular place for Tampa locals to converge.
The Rising West Tampa Lifestyle
West Tampa’s eateries, pastimes, and cultural gems are so many, we’re tempted to write a second post! Seriously: we’ve barely scratched the surface with the amazing places we’ve listed. Between the 10-minute drive from SoHo (without the SoHo price tag), incredible Florida Avenue food and brewery scene, and plentiful home ownership opportunities, West Tampa is one of the hottest neighborhoods in the Tampa Bay area!
